Asian Boxing President Pichai Chunhavajira Meets with OCA Director General Hussain Al Musallam to Discuss Future of Boxing in Asia

Bangkok, Thailand – February 25, 2025 – Asian Boxing President H.E. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira met today with H.E. Mr. Hussain Al Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), to discuss key developments and future initiatives for boxing in Asia. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Finance of Thailand.
During the discussion, President Chunhavajira expressed his gratitude to the OCA Executive Committee for granting provisional recognition to Asian Boxing as the official Asian Federation for Boxing on December 28, 2024. He also acknowledged the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between OCA and Asian Boxing, aimed at fostering boxing development across the continent. This agreement was formalized during the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.
The recognition of Asian Boxing strengthens collaboration with OCA and local organizing committees in preparation for major upcoming events, including the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain and the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
President Chunhavajira emphasized the importance of including boxing in the Asian Youth Games 2025, aligning it with the Dakar Youth Olympic Games 2026. He reiterated his proposal to integrate boxing into the official sports program, ensuring young athletes have adequate opportunities to prepare for international competition.
Another key point of discussion was the progress of the International Boxing Training Center in Thailand. The Thailand Boxing Association and the Sports Authority of Thailand are working on completing this world-class facility by the end of 2025. The center is set to be a premier hub for boxing development in Asia, with its official opening planned as the venue for the SEA Games 2025 boxing competition in Bangkok.
“As Asian Boxing, we propose to the OCA that this center be officially marked as a regional training hub for the sport in Asia,” said President Chunhavajira.
