Published on: May 25, 2025

The second day of the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2025 saw Asian boxers maintain their dominance across multiple weight categories in both men’s and women’s divisions during two high-energy sessions at the Bangkok venue.

In the Flyweight (50kg) division, Shodiyorjon Melikuziev of Uzbekistan earned a narrow but well-deserved 3:2 win over the Philippines’ Jay Bryan Baricuatro. Thailand’s Thitiwat Phlongaura also claimed a strong 5:0 victory against Japan’s Shodai Koto, while Phanuwat Punnakorn (THC) outpointed compatriot Natthaphong Thuamcharoen (THB) in an all-Thai clash. Kazakhstan’s Nurzat Ongarov closed out the weight class with a clear 5:0 win over Malaysia’s Muhammad Rasdenal Haikal.

In the Middleweight (75kg) bout, Kazakhstan’s Timur Nurseitov overwhelmed Singapore’s Velco Tan, winning every round on all five scorecards.

The Light Heavyweight (80kg) division was dominated by two powerful Asian performances: Tuohétaerbieke Tanglatihan of China shut out Ukraine’s Mykyta Zasenok 5:0, and Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzhigit Uulu Omurbek matched that result against Cambodia’s Nasredinov Anvar.

In the women’s bouts, Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Buribayeva defeated the Philippines’ Ofelia Magno in the Light Flyweight (48kg) category with a clean 5:0 sweep. Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova followed up with another unanimous decision in the Flyweight (51kg) division, beating Singapore’s Wann Chee.

With fighters from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, and China continuing to make statements in the ring, the Asian contingent has once again asserted itself as a force on the international boxing stage. The Thailand Open continues tomorrow with more bouts as teams look to secure their places in the final rounds.
