Asian boxers delivered an impressive display of skill and dominance on Day One of the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2025, with strong showings across both the afternoon and evening sessions at Bangkok’s competition venue.
In the men’s divisions, Thailand emerged as a powerhouse, collecting wins through Khunatip Pidnuch and Bunjong Sinsiri in the 65kg category and Aphichit Chaedi at 60kg. India had a solid start with a victory from Pawan Bartwal. Mark Ashley Fajardo from Philippines winning his opening bout, while Daniyarov Madiyar (UZB) and Orazbek Assylkulov (KAZ) scored narrow victories in the highly competitive 60kg class.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan each recorded multiple wins: Dulat Bekbauov (KAZ) advanced via walkover, and Mukhamadazizbek Ismoilov (UZB) impressed with a dominant 5:0 victory at 70kg. Torekhan Sabyrkhan (KAZ) also edged out his Korean opponent in a close 3:2 decision.
Chinese Taipei’s Kan Chia-Wei and Japan’s Sota Nakayama both secured unanimous victories, while Kyrgyzstan’s Ikhtiiar Nishonov stunned the crowd with a first-round stoppage over Jordan’s Mohammad Alashoush.
In the women’s events, Cao Wanqi (CHN) and Mikoto Harada (JPN) produced confident performances in the 54kg division, with Feruza Kazakova (UZB) overpowering her Ukrainian opponent. In the 60kg category, Sanju (IND) outclassed Japan’s Sarii Kokufu, and Viktoriya Grafeyeva (KAZ) earned a commanding 4:1 win over Korea’s Yeonji Oh.
With many bouts featuring all-Asian contests and several intercontinental matchups going Asia’s way, the continent’s young talents sent a clear message on opening day. The tournament resumes tomorrow with another packed schedule as boxers continue their path toward gold in Bangkok.
