Asian Boxing Launches Historic Electoral Process Led by Distinguished Committee

Published on: June 11, 2025

As Asian Boxing prepares for its Extraordinary Congress on August 2, 2025, in Bangkok, the formation of a high-level Special Election Commission marks a pivotal step toward the Confederation’s continued growth and democratic evolution. The Commission will oversee all aspects of the election process, from candidacy validation to final voting.

Leading the Commission, and appointed by the OCA, is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supitr Samahito, Executive Board Member of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand. Prof. Supitr has earned regional and international recognition for her lifelong dedication to promoting women in sport—from athletes on the field of play to decision-makers in boardrooms. As Deputy Chef de Mission for Thailand’s Paris 2024 Olympic delegation, she continues to set the standard for inclusion and leadership across Southeast Asia.

Serving alongside her is Mr. Mike McAtee, Secretary General of World Boxing. McAtee brings over nine years of executive leadership as the Executive Director and CEO of USA Boxing, where he plays a key role in modernizing governance and expanding development pathways for athletes and coaches. A former boxing coach himself, McAtee also draws from a background in law enforcement—bringing with him a reputation for discipline, transparency, and accountability in organizational conduct.

Rounding out the Commission is Mr. Ali Salameh, Secretary General of Asian Boxing, whose tireless work was instrumental in the formation of the Confederation. Salameh has been at the forefront of strategic planning and institutional reform, advocating for a modern, inclusive, and athlete-centered approach to sports administration across the continent for over 20 years.
