U22 Quarterfinals Deliver Drama and Skill as Final Four Begins to Take Shape

Day 4 of the Asian Boxing U19 & U22 Boxing Championships saw a full slate of quarterfinal bouts in both the morning and evening sessions, with 40 intense matchups determining who advances to the medal rounds. The day featured a mix of dominant performances, razor-close split decisions, and several referee stoppages as boxers in the Under-22 category fought for their place on the podium.

The morning session opened with seven women’s quarterfinals in the Light, Welter, and Light Middle categories. Among the standout victories were India’s Priya, who swept all five scorecards in her 60kg bout, and Korea’s Seo Eun Kim who impressed with sharp combinations before falling to Vietnam’s Thi Tuyet Tran. China and Uzbekistan also made strides in the women’s division with strong tactical showings.

The men’s bouts began with action in the 50kg Flyweight division, where Japan’s Shodai Koto, Uzbekistan’s Behruz Kholdorov, and Thailand’s Thitiwat Phlongaurai each earned unanimous wins. The later bouts saw technical battles and power displays, including Mongolia’s Damdindorg Pucevdorj advancing by walkover and Kazakhstan’s Ilya Kalinin earning a clean sweep in his Welterweight match against Korea’s Donghyeon Lee.

In the evening session, Light Middleweight and Middleweight categories took center stage. Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Mursal, Malaysia’s Muhammad Ariff Aiman Mohd Farid, and Japan’s Moeto Kawamura each advanced with commanding wins. Uzbekistan’s Mukhamad Azizbek Ismoilov secured a second-round stoppage, underscoring his medal ambitions.

Uzbekistan continued its strong run with victories from Shavkatjon Boltaev and Rakhmatullo Boymatov, while India’s Rockey Chaudhary triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Azatbek Zholdaskhan in the 85kg Cruiser division. In the Super Heavyweight division, India’s Ishan Kataria and Uzbekistan’s Khalimjon Mamasoliev both forced stoppages to move into the semifinals.

In total, 33 men’s quarterfinals were contested, highlighting the depth and talent across Asia’s boxing nations. As the championships progress, the intensity inside the ring continues to rise, with semifinal spots now secured in most weight divisions.
