Asian Boxers Make Strong Start on Day 1 of World Boxing Championships in Liverpool

The opening day of the World Boxing Championships at the M&S Bank Arena saw Asia’s best boxers step into the ring with determination, producing a mix of commanding victories and brave performances across both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Session 1 Highlights

Carlo Paalam (Philippines) delivered a flawless performance in the men’s 55kg division, outclassing Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Chiao-Chun with a unanimous 5:0 win.

Ali Habibinezhad (Iran) also impressed, securing a 5:0 points win over Greece’s Stelios Kirsanidis in the men’s 65kg category.

Obada Alkasbeh (Jordan) showed his experience in the same weight class, defeating Sweden’s Hampus Broman in a clean 5:0 verdict.

At 70kg, Bayramdurdy Nurmuhamedov (Turkmenistan) earned a convincing 5:0 victory over Mexico’s Abel Alvarez, while teammate Sarkhan Aliyev (Azerbaijan) fell just short in a narrow 4:1 loss to USA’s Carlos Flowers.

Session 2 Highlights

Sakshi (India) stormed into the next round in the women’s 54kg division with a referee stoppage victory (RSC, Round 2) against Ukraine’s Viktoriia Shkeul.

In an all-Asian showdown, Nigina Uktamova (Uzbekistan) defeated Kazakhstan’s Elina Bazarova by a clear 5:0 score in the women’s 54kg class.

Xu Jiasheng (China) suffered a setback at 60kg, losing 5:0 to Turkey’s Mehmethan Cinar, while Junmilardo Ogayre (Philippines) cruised to a 5:0 win over Taiwan’s Lai Chu-En.

At women’s 54kg, Huang Hsiao-Wen (Chinese Taipei) produced a brilliant display to defeat Japan’s Korin Kokufu with a unanimous 5:0 verdict.

Sanamacha Chanu (India) was equally impressive at 70kg, beating Denmark’s Ditte Frostholm 4:1 on points

In the men’s 65kg division, Mousa Alhawsaw (Saudi Arabia) marked his championship debut with a dominant 5:0 victory over Fiji’s Semi Koritukana.

Kan Chia-Wei (Chinese Taipei) pulled off a strong upset in the men’s 70kg division, defeating Poland’s Pawel Sulecki by unanimous decision.

At heavyweight (90kg), Xie Lifeng (China) forced a first-round stoppage (RSC, 2:37) against Mexico’s Jesus Talamantes.

Sagyndyk Togambay (Kazakhstan) showed grit to edge England’s Isaac Okoh by split decision (3:2) in the men’s 90kg class.

In the same division, Harsh Choudhary (India) fell to Poland’s Adam Tutak by referee stoppage in the third round.

Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu (Kyrgyzstan) battled hard but dropped a close 4:1 contest to Turkey’s Kaan Aykutsun at 80kg.
