The U23 men’s quarterfinals got underway on Friday afternoon at the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026, with athletes competing across the 50kg, 55kg, 60kg and 65kg divisions. Sixteen bouts produced an exciting afternoon of Olympic-style boxing as competitors battled for places in the semifinals and guaranteed medals.
The men’s 50kg division opened the session with four closely contested bouts. Japan’s Daichi Iwai edged Kazakhstan’s Nurzat Ongarov in a split decision, while Bhutan’s Kinley Phuntsho advanced with a victory over Vietnam’s Quang Tuan Phan. India’s Vishvanath Suresh delivered a dominant unanimous decision against Saudi Arabia’s Ibrahim Aljohani, and the Philippines’ Clark Vicera overcame Indonesia’s Fredrik Suhendri Ampage to complete the semifinal lineup.
In the men’s 55kg division, Uzbekistan’s Faryozbek Dustmatov progressed after a hard-fought split decision over Kyrgyzstan’s Zafarbek Kamilov. Kazakhstan’s Bexulatn Boranbek, Japan’s Fuma Kumamoto and India’s Ganga also secured convincing victories to advance to the next round.
The men’s 60kg quarterfinals showcased another series of impressive performances. Kazakhstan’s Nurassyl Tulebek, Thailand’s Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram, Japan’s Koichi Nakayama and Uzbekistan’s Abdurakhmon Makhmudjonov all booked their places in the semifinals, with Nakayama and Makhmudjonov each recording unanimous decision victories.
The afternoon concluded with the men’s 65kg division, where the Republic of Korea’s Donghwan Jang, Uzbekistan’s Ilkhomjon Ergashev, Kyrgyzstan’s Omar Livaza and India’s Vanshaj advanced following composed performances in competitive contests.
