Dr. Tatsuya Nakama is a distinguished medical professional and sports administrator, currently serving as the President of the Japan Boxing Federation (JABF). With a long-standing involvement in boxing, he has held numerous leadership roles within the federation, including Executive Director, Board Member, and Chairman of the Crisis Management Committee. A former gold medalist in national high school boxing tournaments, Dr. Nakama has also contributed significantly to athlete safety and anti-doping initiatives.
Parallel to his sports leadership, Dr. Nakama has built an impressive medical career in cardiology. He is the Director of the Department of Cardiology at Tokyo Bay Medical Center and holds academic appointments at prestigious institutions including Juntendo University, Chiba University, and Jikei University School of Medicine. Certified by multiple Japanese medical societies, he has also been an invited reviewer for leading international journals and actively participates in medical conferences and research associations. His career reflects a rare blend of excellence in both medicine and sport, underscoring his dedication to advancing health and athletic performance in Japan.
Chairman of the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines, Vargas has led ABAP through its transition to the breakaway World Boxing organization and was appointed to the interim board of Asian Boxing in December 2024. A veteran corporate executive and sports administrator with extensive institutional influence including roles at PLDT, MVP Sports Foundation, and as former President of the Philippine Olympic Committee—he brings deep financial and organizational backing to Philippine boxing.
