Published on: March 26, 2025

Asian Boxing expresses strong support for the decision of the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to propose the inclusion of boxing in the sports programme for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (LA28). The proposal will be presented to the 144th Session of the IOC, which is set to take place in Costa Navarino, Greece, this week (19-21 March 2025).

If the IOC Session votes to approve the EB’s proposal, boxing will be reinstated to the competition programme for LA28.

“This is a momentous and pivotal step for Olympic boxing, and we are thrilled to see the sport moving closer to being reinstated in the Olympic programme for LA28. Boxing holds a unique place in the history of the Olympic Games, and we believe this decision is a testament to the strength and global appeal of the sport,” Pichai Chunhavajira, President of Asian Boxing.

“We are hopeful that the IOC Session will recognize the importance of boxing’s continued inclusion in the Games, not only for the future of the sport but also for the athletes who rely on the Olympic platform to showcase their talent and passion. On behalf of Asian Boxing, I want to thank the IOC Executive Board for their support, and we look forward to a positive outcome.”

Pichai Chunhavajira further emphasized:
“Being part of the Olympic Games is an extraordinary privilege, and Asian Boxing is fully committed to ensuring that, if reinstated, we will continue to uphold the values of the Olympic Charter. We are dedicated to working in partnership with the IOC to ensure the future of boxing remains bright and aligned with the integrity and spirit of the Games.”

Asian Boxing remains optimistic about the future of the sport and looks forward to the IOC Session’s decision later this week.
