Asian boxing talent shone brightly once again on Day 5 of the World Boxing Cup in Astana unfolded with high-stakes action across the men’s and women’s divisions. Fighters from Central, South, and East Asia delivered some of the tournament’s most decisive victories, cementing Asia’s growing dominance on the world stage.
Kazakhstan had a powerful evening with Alua Balkibekova claiming a flawless 5:0 win over Japan’s Yuna Nishinaka in the women’s 51kg category, while Aida Abikeyeva continued her impressive form with a dominant 5:0 decision over South Korea’s Kang Sukyung in the 65kg bout. In the heavyweight division, Yeldana Talipova edged out Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sotimboeva in a tense 3:2 decision, while compatriot Yertugan Zeinullinov dismantled France’s Hugo Grau with a clean sweep in the men’s 65kg category.
From Uzbekistan, Navbakhor Khamidova secured a standout 5:0 win over Brazil’s Beatriz Oliveira in the women’s 65kg division. Despite a narrow loss for Sabina Bobokulova to Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja in the lighter 51kg category, Uzbekistan remained firmly in contention across the women’s ranks.
India’s campaign remained strong, with Neeraj Phogat putting up a valiant effort in a narrow 3:2 decision loss to Olympic champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey, and Nupur scoring a dominant 5:0 win over Turkey’s Seyma Duztas in the women’s +80kg category. Abhinash Jamwal produced one of the most decisive victories of the night with a flawless 5:0 performance against USA’s Rene Camacho in the men’s 65kg class.
Mongolia’s Balsan Mungunsaran showed resilience in her bout against France’s Wassila Lkhadiri, narrowly missing out in a 4:1 decision.
