Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines shine in the semi-finals

The boxing competition at the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025 continued on Tuesday afternoon with an action packed Session 7, staged on 16 December, delivering decisive wins, technical stoppages and tightly contested bouts across women’s and men’s divisions.

In the women’s light flyweight category, Thailand’s Yodwaree Thipsatcha secured a narrow but hard fought 3:2 win on points against Singapore’s Mathialagan Danisha, edging the contest after a close exchange across all three rounds. Vietnam’s Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi followed with a strong showing in the same weight class, defeating the Philippines’ Magno Ofelia by a 4:1 points decision.

Thailand continued its momentum in the women’s lightweight division as Tantawa Apisada claimed a unanimous 5:0 victory over Pasuit Riza of the Philippines. Vietnam’s Ha Thi Linh also impressed, dominating Indonesia’s Manguntu Maria Meisita with a clean 5:0 win on points. In the women’s welterweight category, Thailand’s Suwannapheng Janjaem delivered a commanding performance, taking a unanimous decision over Myanmar’s Kay Thwe Nyein.

The women’s welterweight session concluded with a swift outcome as Singapore’s Warden Xiu Yu Leah secured a first round abandonment victory over Timor Leste’s da Silva Quintas Titania, with the bout ending just 31 seconds into round 1.

The men’s competition opened in the light flyweight division with Thailand’s Phlongaurai Thitiwat stopping Laos’ Khamsathone Khamphouvah in the second round after sustained pressure forced the referee to intervene. The Philippines’ Baricuatro Jay Bryan then produced a dominant display, stopping Timor Leste’s da Silva Antonio Nicolau Hau in the first round.

In the men’s bantamweight category, the Philippines’ Jara Flint delivered a composed performance to defeat Singapore’s Ang Jin Yang by a unanimous 5:0 points decision. Thailand’s Saengphet Thanarat followed with a dominant display of his own, claiming a clear 5:0 points victory over Malaysia’s Wahidi Mohamad Rizal.

In the men’s lightweight division, Indonesia’s Udin Asri recorded a referee stoppage win in round 2 against Myanmar’s Noke Mhal, with the contest halted at 2:03 after sustained pressure.

Closing the session, Thailand’s Ruamtham Sakda capped off a successful afternoon for the host nation with a dominant unanimous points victory over Singapore’s Caelan James Clark in the men’s lightweight category.

Session 7 underlined the depth of talent across Southeast Asia, with host nation Thailand, along with Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines, all registering significant victories as the boxing tournament continues to build momentum at the 33rd SEA Games Thailand 2025.
