Opening Ceremony launches Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026

The Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026 officially got underway today with the Opening Ceremony, welcoming 329 boxers from 20 National Federations to Indonesia for the continental championships.

The ceremony marked the beginning of the competition, bringing together athletes, coaches, officials and dignitaries to celebrate the next generation of Olympic-style boxing before the opening session of the U19 tournament.

Competition began on Sunday afternoon with seven women’s preliminary bouts across the 45–48kg, 51kg and 54kg weight categories, producing a series of competitive contests as the first athletes secured their places in the next round.

Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas claimed the first victory of the championships with a narrow 3-2 split decision over Chinese Taipei’s Fang-Yu Chen in the women’s 45–48kg division, before host nation Indonesia celebrated its first win as Anggie Intania Chalik defeated Thailand’s Pemika Payungkasem by a 4-1 decision.

In the 51kg category, India’s Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari recorded a unanimous points victory over Mongolia’s Lkham Tsendbaatar, while Japan’s Riko Matsushita, Chinese Taipei’s Shi-Chun Chou and Thailand’s Kanyaphat Baonok also progressed to the next round.

The day’s final bout saw India’s Joyshree Devi Chirom earn the first stoppage victory of the championships, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chen-Ning Hong by referee stoppage in the second round of their 54kg contest.

The Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026 continue on Monday with another full schedule of preliminary contests as the continent’s top young boxers continue their pursuit of Asian titles.
