U19 Competition Begins with Exciting Preliminary Bouts in Jakarta

The U19 competition got underway on Tuesday afternoon at the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026, as the next generation of Olympic-style boxers took to the ring for the opening preliminary session. Athletes contested the men’s 47–50kg and 60kg divisions, producing an exciting mix of dominant victories and closely contested bouts.

Kazakhstan’s Askanbai A made an impressive start to the session, earning a second-round Referee Stops Contest victory over Tajikistan’s Azamjon Hasanov in the men’s 47–50kg division. Republic of Korea’s Junsu Choi advanced with a unanimous decision over Indonesia’s Anugrah Tri Sandy Anggoro, while India’s Ambekar Meetei Lairenlakp secured a first-round Referee Stops Contest victory against Chinese Taipei’s Qi-You Xiao.

The men’s 60kg division featured a packed schedule and showcased the depth of talent across Asia. Indonesia’s Joshua Toni Marties Lahin, Kazakhstan’s Doszhan Zhumakan, Thailand’s Siwa Chainarong, Uzbekistan’s Muhammadrizo Ukimov, Kyrgyzstan’s Umar Orusbaev, Tajikistan’s Sharifkhon Nuraliev and India’s Sikander all progressed to the next round with composed performances. Thailand’s Siwa Chainarong was among the standout performers, recording a second-round Referee Stops Contest victory over Vietnam’s Minh Triet Nguyen.

With the U19 competition now underway, the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026 continue to provide an important platform for Asia’s emerging talent, as young boxers gain valuable international experience while pursuing continental honours on the pathway towards the highest level of Olympic-style boxing.
