U19 Men’s Quarterfinals Open with Action-Packed Session in Jakarta

The U19 men’s quarterfinals got underway on Saturday afternoon at the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships Jakarta 2026, with 20 bouts contested across the 47–50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg and 70kg divisions. A place in the semifinals and a guaranteed medal was on the line as Asia’s rising Olympic-style boxers delivered another exciting day of competition.

The men’s 47–50kg division featured four closely contested quarterfinals. Kazakhstan’s Askanbai A advanced with a unanimous decision over the Philippines’ Leo Mhar Lobrido, while Kyrgyzstan’s Nursultan Duishonaliev defeated Thailand’s Thitiphan Khamrae. Uzbekistan’s Nozkosimov Utkizbek produced a dominant unanimous decision against the Republic of Korea’s Junsu Choi, and Japan’s Kotaro Nishizaki edged India’s Ambekar Meetei Lairenlakp in a split decision.

In the men’s 55kg category, Kazakhstan’s Nurkozha E, Uzbekistan’s Elyor Rustamov, the Republic of Korea’s Hyeonmin Lee and India’s Aditya all secured semifinal places. Lee delivered the only stoppage of the division, recording a second-round Referee Stops Contest victory over Chinese Taipei’s Jia-Shian Su.

The men’s 60kg division showcased another series of high-quality contests as Indonesia’s Joshua Toni Marties Lahin, Thailand’s Siwa Chainarong, Uzbekistan’s Muhammadrizo Ukimov and India’s Sikander booked their places in the medal rounds with composed performances.

Competition continued in the men’s 65kg division, where Kazakhstan’s Akzhurek Kalabay opened with a first-round Referee Stops Contest victory over Saudi Arabia’s Ziyad Alshehri. Indonesia’s Viktor Wengkang, India’s Mausam Suhag and the Republic of Korea’s Daeho Kang also progressed, with Kang advancing after Japan’s Dairu Shiroza retired in the third round.

The afternoon concluded with the opening quarterfinals in the men’s 70kg category. Kazakhstan’s Bibarys Ashirbay, Uzbekistan’s Saidkhuja Sadillakhujaev, the Republic of Korea’s Sihyun Nam and Japan’s Kunimitsu Honjo each secured convincing victories to move one step closer to the continental title.
