From the Secretary General’s Desk

When people watch boxing at the Asian Games, they see the final result.

They see the opening ceremony, the packed arena, the flags, the national uniforms and, eventually, the medals.

What they don’t see is everything that happens long before the first bell.

Years before a host city welcomes the athletes, preparations are already underway.

From the outside, a championship lasts only a matter of days.

From the inside, it represents years of work.

As Secretary General of Asian Boxing, I have the privilege of seeing that process unfold from every angle. I see the discussions with organisers and host cities. I see the collaboration with our partners across the Olympic Movement, including the Olympic Council of Asia, World Boxing and National Federations, to ensure our athletes have a clear pathway to the highest level of competition.

I also see something even more important.

I see young athletes who are willing to make sacrifices every single day for a dream that is never guaranteed.

Some come from large cities with established programmes. Others train in modest gyms with limited resources. Their journeys may look different, but once they step into the ring, they all deserve the same opportunity, to compete in an environment built on fairness, and respect.

That responsibility belongs to all of us.

It is why we continue to strengthen our competitions. It is why we invest in technical excellence. It is why we support our National Federations, develop our officials, expand our media coverage so athletes receive the recognition they deserve, and continue building stronger athlete representation through initiatives such as the Athletes’ Committee.

Every decision we make should move one athlete one step closer to their dream.

In just over a month, the Asian Games in Nagoya will once again bring together the very best athletes from across our continent. For many, it will be the biggest competition of their lives. They will proudly wear their nation’s colours, carry their flag and represent far more than themselves.

When that moment arrives, I hope people remember that the performance they witness is only the final chapter of a story that began many years earlier.

Our role at Asian Boxing is to help write the chapters that come before it.

Because behind every athlete who reaches the Asian Games is a pathway that countless people have worked together to build.

And there is no greater responsibility than helping create that opportunity.
