Asian Boxing Board Meets in Aichi-Nagoya as Athletes Join Board Following Committee Confirmation

The Asian Boxing Board convened in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, during the 20th Asian Games, bringing together the leadership of the Confederation to review key governance, competition and organisational matters and plan the next stages of Asian Boxing’s development.

The meeting was chaired by Asian Boxing President Pichai Chunhavajira and was also attended by World Boxing President Gennadiy Golovkin, who joined Asian Boxing’s leadership during the meeting in Aichi-Nagoya.

The presence of the World Boxing President came during a significant period for boxing in Asia, with the continent’s athletes competing at the Asian Games and Asian Boxing continuing to strengthen its governance, competition structure and athlete representation.

A significant moment during the meeting was the formal approval of the results of the Asian Boxing Athletes Committee process and the confirmation of the Committee’s representation on the Asian Boxing Board.

Following approval of the results, Athletes Committee Chair Odai Alhindawi of Jordan and Vice Chair Arundhati Choudhary of India joined the meeting as new members of the Asian Boxing Board.

Their inclusion gives athletes direct representation within the Confederation’s decision-making structure and follows the completion of the Athletes Committee process during the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

The full Athletes Committee is led by Alhindawi and Choudhary and also includes Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa of Japan, Ali Habibinezhad of Iran, Karina Khabirovna Ibragimova of Kazakhstan and Huswatun Hasanah of Indonesia.

The Board also considered the bidding process for the 2027 Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Boxing Championships and the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Boxing Championships. National Federations will be invited to submit hosting bids following Board approval, with the official bidding documents to be circulated to eligible National Federations.

Discussions covered the requirements for prospective hosts, including competition venues, accommodation, transportation, organisational arrangements and financial and hosting obligations. The bidding process will include submission deadlines, evaluation and inspection procedures before the final host Federation and city are approved.
Board members also reviewed upcoming competitions and activities, organisational and operational matters and other issues requiring Board guidance or approval.

The meeting took place during the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, providing an important opportunity for Asian Boxing’s leadership to meet while many of the continent’s leading boxers are competing in Japan.

The addition of the Athletes Committee Chair and Vice Chair to the Board represents another important development in Asian Boxing’s governance, ensuring athletes have direct representation and a voice at the highest level of decision-making within the Confederation.

The meeting concluded with the Board confirming follow-up actions and continuing preparations for Asian Boxing’s upcoming programme of competitions and activities.
