Asian Boxing Confirms Full Athletes Committee in Historic Step for Athlete Representation

Asian Boxing has confirmed the full composition of its Athletes Committee, marking a historic milestone for athlete representation and governance within the Confederation.

India’s Arundhati Choudhary has been confirmed as Vice Chair following the decision of Kazakhstan’s Karina Khabirovna Ibragimova to withdraw her nomination for the position and give her full support to Choudhary.

Choudhary and Ibragimova had been the two eligible candidates for Vice Chair – Women, with an election scheduled to take place on September 27 during the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026. Following Ibragimova’s decision, Choudhary becomes the sole candidate and therefore no election will be required.

Ibragimova will continue to serve as a member of the Asian Boxing Athletes Committee.

“I am very happy to give my full support to Arundhati Choudhary as Vice Chair of the Asian Boxing Athletes Committee. I believe she will be a strong voice for our athletes, and I am proud to continue as a member of the committee alongside her and our fellow members. Together, I believe we can do important work for athletes across Asia,” said Ibragimova.

The confirmation of the Vice Chair position means that, for the first time, Asian Boxing now has its complete Athletes Committee in place.

Asian Boxing Board Member and Audit & Finance Committee Chairperson Darkhan Kyzaibayev, who chaired the official review of applications for the Athletes Committee, welcomed the completion of the committee.

“Today marks an important and historic moment for Asian Boxing as we now have our full Athletes Committee in place. From the beginning of this process, our priority has been to ensure that athletes have meaningful representation and a strong voice within Asian Boxing. I would like to congratulate Arundhati on her confirmation as Vice Chair, and thank Karina for the unity and sportsmanship she has shown in supporting her fellow athlete. We now look forward to seeing the committee begin its work and ensuring the voices of athletes across Asia are heard,” said Kyzaibayev.

The confirmation of the full committee marks an important step in Asian Boxing’s continued development and commitment to ensuring athletes have a formal and meaningful role within the governance of the Confederation. The committee is led by Jordan’s Odai Alhindawi, who was previously confirmed as Chair after being the sole eligible candidate for the position.

The establishment of the full committee represents another significant step in Asian Boxing’s governance development and its commitment to athlete representation.

The process has been conducted in line with the governance principles and athlete representation standards promoted by the International Olympic Committee, reinforcing Asian Boxing’s commitment to ensuring athletes have a formal and meaningful role within the decision-making structures of the Confederation.

The eligibility process followed an official review of all applications and supporting documentation. The review was chaired by Asian Boxing Board Member and Audit & Finance Committee Chairperson Darkhan Kyzaibayev, alongside Asian Boxing Secretary General Ali Salameh and Sport Integrity Officer Chaiwat Chotima.

All applications were reviewed to ensure candidates fulfilled the required eligibility criteria and submitted the necessary documentation.

With the full committee now confirmed during the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, Asian Boxing enters a new stage of athlete representation, providing boxers with a direct platform through which their experience, perspectives and interests can contribute to the continued development of Olympic-style boxing across Asia.
