Asian Games Boxing Quarterfinals Continue in Aichi-Nagoya

The quarterfinal stage continued at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday, September 27, with the Women’s 54kg and Men’s 80kg divisions taking centre stage during Session 13 at Nishio Gymnasium.

Japan’s Namiki Tsukimi secured a place in the Women’s 54kg semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen, while Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang edged Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova in a close 3-2 decision.

China’s Zhao Xuan produced a commanding 5-0 victory over Bhutan’s Kinga Wangmo to advance, while DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi needed just 26 seconds to secure her semifinal place, stopping Mongolia’s Munguntsetseg Enkhjargal by RSC in the opening round.

The Men’s 80kg quarterfinals began with Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboev advancing after Sri Lanka’s Mohommed Usaith Yazmin was stopped due to injury 58 seconds into the first round.

India’s Ankush followed with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov, with all five judges awarding the bout to the Indian boxer.

Korea’s Kim Minseong then booked his place in the semifinals with a 4-1 win over Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita.

Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish completed the Men’s 80kg semifinal line-up after defeating China’s Wang Xiaobao by a 3-1 decision.

With every bout in Session 13 contested at the quarterfinal stage, the eight winners secured their places in the semifinals and guaranteed themselves a medal at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
