Olympic Champions Huang and Khalokov Advance as Round of 16 Action Continues in Nishio

Olympic champions Huang Hsiao-wen of Chinese Taipei and Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan were among the boxers advancing as the Round of 16 continued during Session 9 of the boxing competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

The afternoon session at Nishio Gymnasium featured four bouts in the Women’s 54kg division, followed by four Men’s 60kg contests and the final bout of the session in the Men’s +90kg division.

Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen opened the session with a commanding 5-0 victory over Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh in the Women’s 54kg Round of 16. All five judges awarded Huang each of the three rounds as she secured her place in the next stage.

Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki also progressed with a unanimous 5-0 win over Nepal’s Asmita Duwal, while Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang recorded the same margin against the Philippines’ Riza Pasuit. Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova completed the Women’s 54kg action with a 5-0 victory over Tajikistan’s Bibinashastamo Kholova.

Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov continued his Asian Games campaign in impressive fashion in the Men’s 60kg division, defeating DPR Korea’s O Tae Bom 5-0. The Uzbek controlled the scorecards throughout the bout, taking the unanimous decision to advance from the Round of 16.

The Philippines’ Junmilardo Ogayre followed with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Nepal’s Khagendra Roka Magar to secure his place in the next round.

Host nation Japan also celebrated another victory as Shunsuke Kitamoto defeated Iraq’s Mohammed Sattar Salih Shijlawi 5-0 in their Men’s 60kg contest. India’s Sachin then overcame Jordan’s Mohammad Abu Jajeh by a 4-1 split decision to advance.

The closest contest of Session 9 came in the Men’s +90kg division, where Kyrgyzstan’s Myrzakir Koshaliev edged Turkmenistan’s Dovlet Yslamov 3-2. Three judges scored the bout 30-27 for Koshaliev, while the remaining two awarded Yslamov the contest 29-28, sending the Kyrgyz boxer through after a tightly contested finish to the session.
