Zhao Xuan Defeats Nazym Kyzaibay as Round of 16 Action Continues at Asian Games

China’s Zhao Xuan claimed one of the standout victories of Session 10, defeating Kazakhstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay as the Women’s 54kg and Men’s 60kg Round of 16 continued at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Zhao opened the evening session at Nishio Gymnasium against Kyzaibay, securing a 4-1 victory on points. Four judges awarded the contest to the Chinese boxer, sending her through to the next stage of the Women’s 54kg competition.

Bhutan’s Kinga Wangmo followed with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Bahrain’s Maryam Khamis, while Mongolia’s Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg edged Korea’s Yang Leeyeong 3-2 in a closely contested bout.

DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi completed the Women’s 54kg action with a commanding 5-0 victory over India’s Preeti, taking all five judges’ scorecards 30-27 to secure her place in the next round.

The Men’s 60kg division began with Korea’s Jang Donghwan defeating Kazakhstan’s Orazbek Assylkulov 4-1. Thailand’s Sakda Ruamtham then produced another 4-1 victory, overcoming Iran’s Daniyal Shahbakhsh to advance.

Afghanistan’s Emal Hamdam continued the Men’s 60kg action with a 4-1 win over Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Jayanath Kumara Gunasila Jayawardhana. Tajikistan’s Akmal Ubaidov then advanced against Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu with a 3-0 decision, with two judges scoring the bout level and three giving Ubaidov the advantage.

The final bout of Session 10 saw Iran’s Amir Esmaeili Vandaei deliver the only stoppage of the evening against Korea’s Ju Taeung in the Men’s +90kg division. Esmaeili Vandaei was ahead on all five judges’ scorecards before the referee stopped the contest at 1:52 of the second round.

With the Round of 16 continuing across the divisions, the field continues to narrow as boxers move closer to the medal stages at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
