Women Take Centre Stage as Asian Games Boxing Continues in Nishio

The women’s competition took centre stage during Session 7 of the boxing competition at the 20th Asian Games, with Round of 16 contests in the Women’s 51kg and 65kg divisions followed by further action in the Men’s 70kg category at Nishio Gymnasium.

China’s Wu Yu opened the session with a commanding performance in the Women’s 51kg division, earning a unanimous 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka’s Nadeeka Pushpakumari Ranasinghe Arachchige. Mongolia’s Yesugen Oyuntsetseg followed with an impressive stoppage victory over Pakistan’s Maria, with the referee ending the contest 31 seconds into the third round.

Uzbekistan’s Feruza Kazakova also advanced with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat, while DPR Korea’s An Kum Byol defeated Jordan’s Hanan Nassar by the same margin to secure her place in the next round.

The Women’s 65kg division saw Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng record a 5-0 victory over Vietnam’s Hoang Ngoc Mai. Iran’s Sarina Naghsh came through one of the closest contests of the session, defeating Indonesia’s Huswatun Hasanah by a 3-2 split decision.

DPR Korea added another victory through Hwang Hyo Sun, who defeated Japan’s Mai Kito 5-0 in their Women’s 65kg Round of 16 contest.

Attention then returned to the Men’s 70kg division, where Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan delivered a dominant 5-0 victory over Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi. Iraq’s Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray advanced after his contest against India’s Sumit was stopped due to injury in the third round.

Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltaev secured a 4-1 victory over Korea’s Kim Joonsu, while China’s Li Guofeng closed the session with a second-round stoppage against Mongolia’s Byamba-erdene Otgonbaatar at 2:17.

The results complete another session of preliminary action as the field continues to narrow and boxers move closer to the medal stages of the Asian Games boxing competition.
