Women’s Competition Opens on Day 2 of Asian Games Boxing in Nagoya

The women’s competition got underway at the 20th Asian Games on Tuesday, September 22, with five preliminary bouts contested during Session 3 at Nishio Gymnasium.

The session featured four unanimous decisions and one stoppage across the Women’s 51kg and 54kg divisions.

Sri Lanka’s Nadeeka Pushpakumari Ranasinghe Arachchige opened the session with a 5-0 unanimous decision over Afghanistan’s Lala Kargar in the Women’s 51kg Round of 32. All five judges awarded the contest to the Sri Lankan boxer.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam followed with another convincing performance at 51kg, defeating Nepal’s Ramisha Shrestha by unanimous decision, 5-0.

India’s Sakshi also advanced in the Women’s 51kg division after recording a 5-0 victory over the Philippines’ Aira Villegas. Sakshi controlled the scorecards across all three rounds, with each of the five judges awarding her the bout.

The action then moved to the Women’s 54kg division, where Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh secured a unanimous 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka’s Keshani Hansika Kasthuri Kasthuri Arachchige.

The session’s only stoppage came in the final bout, as DPR Korea’s Pang Chol Mi defeated Indonesia’s Nabila Maharani by RSC at 48 seconds of the second round to book her place in the next stage of the competition.
