Men’s 55kg Competition Opens With Eight Bouts in Session 4 at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

The Men’s 55kg competition got underway with eight Round of 32 preliminary bouts during Session 4 of the boxing competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 at Nishio Gymnasium.

Iran’s Mehdi Kazemi opened the session with a 4-1 victory on points over DPR Korea’s So Chon Ryong, while Iraq’s Abbas Qasim Hamdan Al Sarray advanced following a third-round referee-stopped-contest victory against Sri Lanka’s Rukmal Prasanna Podi Arachchige.

Tajikistan’s Meroj Sufijonov produced a unanimous 5-0 victory over Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman, before India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam recorded another unanimous decision, defeating Nepal’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa 5-0.

Bangladesh’s Md Utsob Ahmmed continued the action with a 5-0 victory over Bhutan’s Migma Dorji. Thailand’s Kangpi Bokhunthod followed with a unanimous 5-0 decision against Turkmenistan’s Daniyar Rozmetov to secure his place in the next round.

Jordan’s Huthaifa Eshish needed little time to secure his progression, defeating Laos’ Vanesy Heuangthisouan by referee-stopped-contest in the opening round.

The final bout of Session 4 saw Kyrgyzstan’s Zafarbek Shakirzhanovich Kamilov defeat Indonesia’s Jill Mandagie by a 4-1 split decision, completing the evening’s Men’s 55kg programme.

Competition continues at Nishio Gymnasium as boxers from across Asia pursue medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
