Asian boxers record strong opening wins at World Boxing U19 Futures Cup in Bangkok

Asian athletes delivered a strong start on the opening day of the World Boxing U19 Futures Cup in Bangkok, with several boxers from across the continent advancing after impressive victories in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

In the women’s competition, India’s Joyshree Devi Chirom secured a dominant RSC victory over Tajikistan’s Farinoz Abdulloeva in the 54kg category. Uzbekistan also celebrated success as Sabrina Chakomova edged China’s Yaorunyu Wang by split decision.

India continued its strong showing in the men’s 50kg division when Ambekar Meetei Lairenlakpam earned a unanimous decision win against Leo Mhar Lobrido of the Philippines.

Several Central Asian boxers also impressed in the men’s 60kg division. Tajikistan’s Amirbek Makhramov stopped Korea’s Doheon Nam by RSC, while Turkmenistan’s Muhammet Nazarov also secured an RSC victory against Germany’s Beker Nemer. Uzbekistan’s Bobomurod Boymirzaev added another win for the region with a convincing unanimous decision over Honduras’ Jefet Escalante.

In the same weight class, Jordan celebrated a notable victory as Wesam Wahidi defeated Saudi Arabia’s Battal Alrashidi by unanimous decision. Thailand’s Siwa Chainarong advanced to the next round after receiving a walkover.
Asian boxers continued to progress in later sessions. India’s Sahil Duhan claimed a unanimous decision victory against China’s Zhengkun Zhang, while Kazakhstan’s Doszhan Zhumakhan earned an RSC win over Kenya’s Phelix Onyango. Vietnam’s Minh Triet Nguyen also advanced with a decision victory against Samoa’s Johnsal Semi.

Further success came in the 70kg category where Kazakhstan’s Bibarys Ashirbay advanced after Tajikistan’s Mukhammmad Mamadaliev was disqualified. Indonesia’s Viktor Wengkang also secured a unanimous victory against Libya’s Jihad Mohamed.

With multiple wins across several weight categories, Asian athletes made an immediate impact on the opening day of competition as the tournament continues in Bangkok with the next round of bouts.
