Asian boxers recorded a series of strong performances during Friday’s sessions of the World Boxing U19 Futures Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, with athletes from Uzbekistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and the DPR Korea securing key victories across several weight categories.
In the women’s competition, DPR Korea’s Yu Gyong Kim claimed a narrow 4:1 split decision victory over Uzbekistan’s Maftuna Musurmonova in the 48kg division. China’s Jiaen Wang produced a dominant performance in the 60kg category, forcing a referee stoppage against Egypt’s Menatalla Ibrahim.
India celebrated multiple wins during the session. Ambekar Meetei Lairenlakpam defeated Japan’s Akira Uekubo by a 4:1 decision in the men’s 50kg division, while Gunjan Gunjan delivered a unanimous decision victory over Azerbaijan’s Gular Huseynova in the women’s 48kg category. Later in the day, Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari secured a referee stoppage win against Spain’s Andrea Buelga García in the women’s 51kg class, and Radhamani Longjam added another victory for India with a unanimous decision against England’s Siobhan Haley at 57kg.
Uzbekistan’s boxers also made their mark throughout the day. Rushanabonu Isoeva edged Slovakia’s Karolina Kollarova by split decision in the women’s 60kg category, while Abdulgani Yorkinjonov delivered a clear unanimous decision victory over Thailand’s Thitiphan Khamrae in the men’s 50kg division. Sardorbek Bakhromkhujayev dominated his contest at 85kg, defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Ibragim Bakalov by unanimous decision, and Asadbek Sultanboev secured another strong win with a 5:0 decision against Panama’s Norman Simmons in the men’s 90kg category.
Kazakhstan also recorded several impressive performances. Bibarys Ashirbay earned a close split decision win over the United States’ Asante Lamar in the men’s 70kg division, while Nursultan Kystaubay secured a referee stoppage victory against Tajikistan’s Jahongir Ruziboev at 85kg. In the women’s competition, Aknur Tursyngali defeated Algeria’s Besma Bahri in the 57kg category, and Khamsa Maksatuly stopped Tajikistan’s Isfandiyor Khashimov in the men’s 75kg division.
Kyrgyzstan celebrated an important victory in the men’s 70kg class as Akhmadi Arvaz defeated England’s Michael Maughan by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, China’s Hao Wu edged Qatar’s Moussa by split decision in the men’s 70kg category.
The results highlighted the continued strength and depth of Asian boxing at youth level, with athletes from across the continent advancing through the competition and demonstrating the technical quality that has long defined the region’s presence on the international stage.
