Asian Games Boxing Opens in Nishio with Men’s 70kg Preliminary Action

Boxing competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 officially got underway today at Nishio Gymnasium, with the opening session featuring five preliminary bouts in the Men’s 70kg division.

Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi opened his campaign with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Vietnam’s Nguyen Duc Ngoc, securing his place in the next round.

India’s Sumit followed with another unanimous performance, defeating Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri 5-0. All five judges awarded the contest to the Indian boxer.

Iraq’s Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray also advanced with a 5-0 unanimous points victory over Nepal’s Dan Bahadur Darlami, completing a commanding start to his Asian Games campaign.

The fourth bout saw the Republic of Korea’s Kim Joonsu overcome Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ibrahim Frootan by a 4-1 split decision.

The closest contest of the opening session came between China’s Li Guofeng and Iran’s Ali Habibinezhad. Li secured the victory by a narrow 3-2 split decision to progress from the Round of 32.

The five bouts marked the beginning of 12 days of Olympic-style boxing competition at Nishio Gymnasium, with the opening session dedicated entirely to the Men’s 70kg preliminary round.
