Men’s 60kg Takes Centre Stage as Asian Games Boxing Continues in Nishio

The boxing competition at the 20th Asian Games continued at Nishio Gymnasium on Wednesday, with six Men’s 60kg preliminary contests followed by three Men’s 80kg Round of 16 bouts during Session 5.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s O Tae Bom opened the session with a unanimous 5–0 victory over Saudi Arabia’s Ziyad Ali S Majrashi, controlling the contest across all three rounds to secure his place in the next stage.

Nepal’s Khagendra Roka Magar followed with another unanimous decision, defeating Macau’s Alvin John Reyes Salinas 5–0, before the Philippines’ Junmilardo Ogayre came through one of the closest contests of the session with a 3–2 split decision over Mongolia’s Lundaa Gantumur.

Home boxer Shunsuke Kitamoto gave Japan another victory, producing a commanding performance against China’s Chen Xinlin to earn a unanimous 5–0 decision.

Iraq’s Mohammed Sattar Salih Shijlawi also advanced with a 5–0 victory over Bahrain’s Omar Budhahei, while Jordan’s Mohammad Abu Jajeh completed the Men’s 60kg action with a unanimous decision over Bhutan’s Kinley.

Attention then turned to the Men’s 80kg Round of 16, where Sri Lanka’s Mohommed Usaith Yazmin defeated Cambodia’s Anvar Nasredinov by a 4–1 split decision to move into the next round.

India’s Ankush delivered a unanimous 5–0 victory over Bahrain’s Hamsa Vogel, with all five judges scoring the contest 30–27.

Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov closed Session 5 with another unanimous victory, defeating Turkmenistan’s Abdyrahman Yklymov 5–0 to secure his progression in the Men’s 80kg competition.
